About MMA and BJJ
What is Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the
world.  The sport is often seen as part of the Ultimate Fighting
Championship (UFC), Elite XC, the International Fight League (IFL) and
other leagues. The sport combines striking and grappling and encompasses
many different combat styles including kickboxing, boxing, grappling,
wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, catch wrestling, traditional Karate and many
other forms and techniques.

Our focus at POWER Extreme Fitness is to help you achieve your goal. If
you goal is to do a professional fight, we can work with you.  If you goal is to
learn MMA techniques for fun, exercise, self-defense and a challenge we
can work with you as well.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as its name would infer, has its roots in the ancient
systems of Japanese Jiu Jitsu which emphasizes self defense through
grappling, joint locks, and other various types of submissions.  It is an art
that was primarily founded by the Samurai Warrior class to defend against
their enemies when their weapons were not available.

The sport was brought from Japan to Brazil about 100 years ago and has
been popularized around the Gracie Family , who also co-founded the
Ultimate Fighting Championship.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is integral to any MMA
fighter.  POWER Extreme Fitness is part of the Gracie-Barra training
program under Professor Rafael Ellwanger.

The POWER Extreme Program

At POWER Extreme Fitness we embrace MMA training as a lifestyle beyond
class instruction by devoting ourselves to eating a healthy diet, cross
training with various combat and fitness programs, and of course testing
ourselves in tournaments nationwide. Our program is open to any person
beginning at any skill level as long as they are dedicated to learning and
growing.

While the ultimate goal may be to get a ranking of black belt in Brazilian Jiu-
Jitsu, more importantly, students can reach their full potential. Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu is not an easy art. It’s unique, in that it requires trust, dedication, and a
thorough understanding one’s own strengths and weaknesses to advance
through the ranks.

We are proud of our training program in that it fits the beginner, advanced
amateur, and professional MMA and BJJ fighter.
